The battle for Earth begins with a secret invasion...
Invaders Vaughn Heppner Books
I have read several of the authors books and they have been good. This is no different. The hero was heroic without being too heroic. The aliens were good and bad. the storyline wasn't too convoluted as to be unreadable. All in all a good beginning to a new series I hope there will be a seriesProduct details

Invaders Vaughn Heppner Books Reviews
Amazing start for an epic storyline. Would be great if the story takes us along the galaxy and back again ;-) but in a space opera setting this time. Now waiting for more and longer books!
This book is classic Heppner science fiction happening now on Earth as competing alien Empires search for an ancient powerful artifact. One man is kidnapped because they mistakenly think he has information about this super ship. He is resourceful and stubborn and determined to stop them at every turn. The miscommunication is sometimes hilarious. I never imagined bumbling aliens before this. INVADERS was a joy to read.
Shortly after starting this book I thought to myself, “Come on, this is too far fetched”, but then as I continued to read, I was drawn into the story and couldn’t let it go. Some might consider it too over board, but I'm sure people a couple of hundred years ago would have considered people flying while seated inside metal cylinders far fetched also. I just bought the second book in the series, so I guess that says it all. Enjoy!
I gave this 5 stars because I enjoyed the book and found out hard to put down. I would have given it 4.5 stars though if i could though because there were a few times when the main character had to explain how circumstance had occurred rather than it being part of the story ie explaining why there are sunglasses in his pocket instead of making those previous actions part of the story. I guess there's pros and cons to both methods, and Vaughn has done a fantastic job with most, it's just that for me the ones where the character has to explain it disrupt the flow a little.
Invaders is a well written first person POV story of how a retired Marine encounters aliens and a Galactic Guard spaceship in Nevada and Greenland, with the result that parts of early human history appear to be influenced by alien Bad Guys. There is a fine action pacing as the hero relies on his combat instincts and luck to kill deadly aliens who are trying to kill him, then he takes the battle to a higher level when he confronts the Starcore menace that could destroy Earth and threaten the galaxy. All the action takes place on and above Earth, but I particularly liked the various aliens the author brings on stage. Mostly I liked the fast, eventful pacing the story. There were maybe a dozen typos through the novel, but they did not distract from my reader enjoyment. Recommended.
It really pains me to do this as I love Vaughn Heppner's books -- but this starts out as a 4-star but ends very episodically as a 2-star. Vaughn has done (almost exact) formula before with Assault Troopers. The characters aren't very complex, and the romance (besides being episodic) feels like a gratuitous tack-on. I finished the book only to see if anything special would come at the end but for me at least it wasn't there.
If you're new to Vaughn and find the premise of this book looked exciting -- skip this and get "Assault Troopers (Extinction Wars Book 1) instead. If you want something a little further in the future, Vaughn's "The Lost Starship" series is a truly epic sci-fi setting with well fleshed out characters, good doses of 'hard sci-fi' to make the universe more believable, and some very interesting plot twists throughout the books that are a lot of fun to read or listen through.
...as space pirates vs. ancient aliens vs. Logan.
Logan is a security contractor guarding a solar collection in the Nevada desert, north of Las Vegas. He goes there one night to make sure his guards are doing their jobs. What he finds is several aliens breaking into the energy storage systems. He intervenes and gets captured.
This launches Logan on an adventure involving a crystal entity trying to protect Earth from space pirates. Ancient aliens, Egyptian hieroglyphs, hairy neanderthals and a cute waitress. How... what? Yeah, that's what I thought, too. It all comes together in a rush. A big adventure from Greenland ice caverns to under the Pacific waters off the Hawaiian coast to Earth orbit. In the end, everything begins to make sense... but does Logan get the girl?
This is an action packed novel. Seriously, once things start to roll, it doesn't let up. The problem for me was that it took a while to get rolling. Even as Logan battles the aliens in the Nevada desert, the action just seems sluggish. There were no explanations concerning the aliens. No indication as to their mission or motives. In a way, the reader learns these things as our hero, Logan, gains his own understanding of the bizarre events.
In any case, the story is told in the first person, for the most part. Not a style that I usually enjoy, but it works in this case. Since this is written as a stand-alone novel, all the threads are tied up in a nice bow at the end. There could be room for a follow-up sequel, but one really isn't needed.
Overall, I enjoyed the story, but it wasn't truly gripping as some I've read. If I put it down for a break, I never found myself feeling an urgency to find out how things were progressing. This one is putdownable, even though it's a good tale.
I have read several of the authors books and they have been good. This is no different. The hero was heroic without being too heroic. The aliens were good and bad. the storyline wasn't too convoluted as to be unreadable. All in all a good beginning to a new series I hope there will be a series
